Hi,

 

I am running Archer A7 behind an OPNSense box and using it primarily for a Guest WiFi. Now I would like OPNSense to handle all DHCP and firewall rules so turned Archer router into AP mode and it started behaving weirdly. Here are few observations:

 

- all machines connected to SSID gets the IP address from OPNSense with correct subnet

- But the router still shows as offline (the front light is in orange color)

- On OPNSense box I can see nothing getting blocked from GuestWiFi subnet

 

Yet none of the machines on GuestWifi can get on internet, I am clueless how to troubleshoot as AP mode has minimal settings and I have gone through each of those multiple times.

 

Any pointers will be appreciated!

It may be due to the A7 possibly looking at the gateway as the DNS server as well. If the DHCP server is off, you can only configure the IP, subnet mas, and gateway.

@Tony in my case the gateway machine is also running the local DNS and NTP server so it should not be a problem.

 

Besides the laptop machine is not able to ping 8.8.8.8 which should not require DNS. While the Archer A7 machine is able to check firmware and shows Internet as connected with a check mark. So the traffic seems to be getting blocked at the A7 unit, from the connected laptop I can only ping the Archer A7's IP, it does not even ping the gateway IP on the firewall.
