Model : TL-841N v.11.1

Hardware Version : WR841N v11 00000000

Firmware Version : 3.16.9 Build 150616 Rel.66493n

ISP : ?

My main router: Linksys EA7500 (WAP Host)
Bridged router: TL-841N

Config now:
Enabled: WDS Bridging on the 841N
Disabled: DHCP Server, set Default Gateway to: 192.168.1.125 (within range of my Linksys IP addresses)
Set both routers to ch. 11
Connected PC to the LAN port of the 841N

The above config works. It allows internet access for the PC (via LAN cable) and also allows Wifi access through the
Tl-841N to other devices.

Unfortunately this is NOT what I wanted. I can no longer get direct Wifi access through the Linksys router. It goes through
the 841N (the 841N becomes the new Access Point) and then gets routed to the EA7500.

What I wanted: To maintain Wifi access through the Linksys EA7500 router and use the 841N router
only for the PC using the LAN cable. Simply put, I just want the 841N to act like a WLAN card for the PC.

Is what I want called "Client" mode (on the 841N)? I assume this is possible, but I have no idea how to do this.

If anyone can give me some help on this I would greatly appreciate it.

With WDS, you should be able to connect to the Linksys wifi. Why did you say you can no longer get Wifi access through the Linksys router? Is the wifi name on the TL-WR841N the same as the Linksys?

I'm getting WiFi access through the 841N, not directly through the Syslink router. They have different SSIDs for now. I'll make them the same and see if it makes any difference. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have confirmed I'm getting Wifi (and internet) access through the WR841N due to it requires a different Wifi password than the Syslink,
data rate is much slower, and proximity from the WR841N changes the signal strength of the Wifi signal accordingly.
I did try giving them the same SSID name yesterday - it made no difference.

New Question: Maybe this requires a Firmware change (like DD-WRT?). Being a Newbie, I would think that just granting the proper IP addresses in both my Host router and this bridged WR841N (WDS) router that I would be able to make it behave like a Client-only router. But, that's probably just my silly naive Newbieness talking.


Update 7/31: I'm gonna go out on a limb here and make an assumption. This isn't the right forum to get an answer to my question. lol

As I know, there is no client-only mode on the TL-WR841N. With WDS enabled anf Wi-Fi function disabled, the 841N may act like a client though.

Yes, I'm aware it can work that way (using wired LAN to the Host router) with Wifi disabled. No help to me. Thanks anyway, Anton.

In the WDS mode, the WR841N becomes THE WAP for my wireless network. My main Host router then becomes inaccessible to my Wifi devices. Cannot get it to work as a Client-only wireless router. DD-WRT says their firmware upgrade can allow Client mode, but unfortunately my v.11.1 is not supported. Oh well

Update: DD-WRT does support v. 11.1 but its beta. See my post below.

Problem Solved: I finally found on the DD-WRT website, Beta files to update the firmware on this router. The DD-WRT firmware does support the wireless Client mode I was trying to achieve. I found the beta firmware files (for my ver. 11.1 router) here:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/other-downloads
(then go to betas)

I installed the 7-27-2017-r32868 files (U.S. versions) and they work great.
