Seems like your computer is not detecting the adapter at all. There should be an unknown device or an icon with a caution symbol indicating it is missing drivers. Try plugging the adapter into all available USB slots. If the computer still does not indicate something was plugged in, either by sound or on the device manager try another computer to see if the issue follows the adapter or stays with the computer.
@Tony I tried different USB ports the first computer and a second computer same issue. With the second computer I tried to use the CD to install too.
