I think, if someone breaks into your local network you'll have more serious issues than them controlling your lights... a better way to protect them is to isolate them on a separate subnet and SSID....

If a TP Link device is power cycled and cannot reach the internet to sync with the current time it will refuse to run any scheduled operations including countdown timers.

I don't think so, I'm pretty sure the green LED on the HS110 cannot be controlled through the API. The nightlight (white) on the HS200 can be turned off using AutomationManager and perhaps other...

I think you mean safety rather than security. If the switch is overheating it would be best to stop using it until you can figure out what's wrong!

You can turn it on then off (or off then on) with a single rule using AutomationManager. But TBH I don't understand why that would matter.
