In my experience the kasa app and devices need to be in the same broadcast domain to connect locally, but I haven't spent much time investigating it.

Sure. vieldcs works for TP Link support so he should address your hidden SSID question, sounds like it might be a bug... I was helping with the "any ideas" part. :).

Almost certainly wiring, nothing to do with wifi. Double check you're using a real neutral and line in. Power through fixture circuits can be misleading in terms of wire color.

TP Link should probably comment, but FWIW you might find using the HS200 for a fan load may cause its relay to burn and stick. A proper auto-off timer switch intended for fans might be a better...

True, it is a bit more complicated but it does snap together quite well and it does come with support. That 24x7 server runs on a $20 low end android phone - in most cases cheaper than the HS110...
