Model: Archer AX6000
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.6 Build 20190822 rel.26396(5553)

I want to install a VPN Client to shield my IP and not build a tunnel to access my computer.  I fear I made a mistake buying this model since I only can see VPN Server setup.  Can someone confirm there is no client?  Is there 3rd party firmware that supports this?

Hello, the Archer AX6000 supports VPN server only, including OpenVPN server and PPTP VPN server.

For the router which supports VPN client, you can order the business VPN router.

https://www.tp-link.com/business-networking/vpn-router/

For the 3rd party firmware, I'm afraid that we cannot give you a specfic answer cause we are not familiar with it; and installing 3rd party firmware will be against the warranty policy.

May it help.

We currently have some models that support VPN Client already, such as Archer AX20, AX21, and AX90, so you can check if you can upgrade the Archer AX6000 with one of these models if you just bought it:
[New Firmware] Routers supporting VPN Client

We cannot provide an ETA now whether or when will the AX6000 add the support for VPN Client, but your opinions and feedback had been forwarded to the related team. You can keep an eye on your router web GUI/Tether app or the official website for any firmware updates.

Current Asus is the only brand with routers that support VPN Client out of the box.

Hopefully TP-Link will catch up.

I believe if you can "flash" the rom with WRT will able to resolve it but it will become DIY.

Yes same issue. In many ways now I think made a mistake in buying this extravagant router with no real benefits. Check out my other thread for "security logs" issue with this router.

DD-WRT has still not updated its DB with latest Tp-Link routers...so kind of stuck here.
