O my device settings it keeps telling me theres an update available 2.0.1 Build 20170427 Rel.72105 however it's never available when I try to download it. Any suggestions ??

what is the current firmware version of your adapter? And it is V1 or V2?
can you show img?

V2 currently 2.0.0 build 20161108 ref 59826 Hrdware T-WPA4220 v2.0

Showing upgrade to 2.0.1 build 20170427 ref 72105

however when pressing upgrade in tpplc app it states site unavailable

Here is the new firmware: http://www.tp-link.com/en/download/TL-WPA4220KIT_V2.html#Firmware
If you want to upgrade, you need to download it from the website and do it manually on a computer. I won't recommend you to upgrade the firmware if there is no issue with the current firmware.
