Hi,

My unit does not turn on the wifi option via the switch.

Is there some sort of fix for this?

Hi, did you try reset it to factory settings by holding the reset button for 10s? If not working, try update the firmware.

OK I found the version on my device it is 3.17.1 Build 20150908 Rel. 40831

On the net I found this page which does not make sense to me. http://www.tp-link.com/en/download/Archer-C5.html#Firmware

Your firmware is the latest one, if you still cannot see the default wifi network from the router after you hard reset it, it's suggested to call TP-Link support.
