The UG suggested that
WDS can be selected? Where?
See User Manual:
http://www.tp-link.com/res/down/doc/TL-WA850RE_V1.2_UG_EU.pdf, page 17, it reads:
Quote:
Operation Mode - Two Operation Modes are supported in most of regions, including Universal Mode and WDS Mode. And some regions also support Proxy Mode.
Universal Mode - The range extender is compatible with most routers and access points in this mode.
WDS Mode - Please choose this mode if your main router or access point works in WDS mode (uses a 4-address frame format to interact with stations).
See Qick Setup:
http://www.tp-link.de/resources/document/tl-wa850re_qigv_multi_language.pdf , page 3. It reads
Quote:
"Wählen Sie als Operation Mode die gewünschte Betriebsart aus und setzen Sie im Feld Region den richtigen Wert ein (Deutschland: Germany, Schweiz: Switzerland, Österreich: Austria). Klicken Sie Next (Weiter)."
which means in english: "Choose desired operation mode and your country ..."
See also the WA850 emulator, menu "Wireless":
http://www.tp-link.de/resources/simulator/TL-WA850RE_V1.2/index.htm
Quote help section in emulator:
Range Extender Mode 2 - In this mode, the range extender will help the wireless stations communicate with root device directly and efficiently, but it requires the root device supporting WDS technology.
BTW: Same with TL-WA860. See page 9

So, since 4addr mode is just an attribute/setting in the mac80211 driver, is it by any means possible to set this attribute even in v2 hardware versions?
Alternatively I could try to get OpenWRT running to find out, but first, I do not want to break cover to get access to the serial console (it's ultrasonic sealed cover) and second, I would prefer to use official TP-Link software if 4addr mode is supported (maybe in an "advanced settings section").
