I bought this TPlink router yesterday and went to set it up so that the wired broadband can become wireless. When I went to plug the Ethernet cable into the back of the modem I discovered that there was only one port for an Ethernet cable - which already has the Ethernet cable from the wall going into it.

So I bought a USB Ethernet Adapter and have the TPlink hooked up to the computer through that, but I haven't managed to get it to work. I have the solid blue light and all that, but the internet doesn't seem to be going through it, which is what I was hoping for. Maybe it can't be done, but I've tried a few things and no luck so far.

Any ideas?

Your router is WR740N? It has one WAN port and four LAN ports. Maybe there is a sticker covered four LAN ports?
Directly connecting to the Ethernet cable from the wall, can you access internet?
If you do, follow the guide below to do troubleshooting.
