Hello

I tried to upgrade my router using the ras file inside http://www.tp-link.com.de/resources/software/TD-W8961NB_V3_140605.zip, but the file is rejected and the router reboots and shows the old firmware: 3.0.0 Build 121130 Rel.34825

The serial label on the bottom shows it is a V3 model.

I used chrome browser v33 to upgrade. The router hangs after some days not showing the web interface any more and needs to be hard reset to get back. Secondly the DHCP reservation setup does not work (I select a MAC from the list, an IP and then try to change from Auto to Static but there is no static choose).

Josef, did you try different web browsers?
Did you read the notes for TD-W8961NB_V3_140605?

After having to send the supplied router back (it was rubbish), I bought the TD-W9980. I eventually managed to get it connected to broadband by following some posts on the talktalk forums. However, the maximum download speed I can get is 12Mb - when the talktalk router was working, I was getting 30Mb!

The router recognises the max speed available, but doesn't seem to use it. Are there an definitive connection/configuration instructions for this device on talktalk?

Maybe you should test the speed in different ways to compare it.

Hi all,

I have similar problem as Josef (hjgode) describes above. I recently bought TP Link TD-W8961NB v3.1 ADSL modem/router and having issues to upgrade to newest firmware. My unit is running the 130128 version and I'd like to upgrade to the latest one which currently shows as 141027 version. I downloaded the file from TP Link website, decompressed it with WinZip and also WinRAR. Followed the instructions precisely as in the guide attached to it. However I always get the following error message when trying to upgrade:

ERROR: FAIL TO UPDATE! The uploaded file was not accepted by the router.

I tried different Windows (7 and 8.1) and different web browsers (IE 9 and latest Mozilla Firefox). Tried to reset router to factory settings. Nothing works. The router just keeps rejecting the ras file.

Any advice on what I'm doing wrong would be really appreciated.

You may have to turn off model check before upgrade.

Hello Ada, thanks a bunch for your response.
Unfortunately, even turning off the model check did not make a difference. I'm still getting the same error message no matter what I do.

Any other advice or suggestion what's causing this, please?

Hi all

I just check the release note of TD-W8961NB_V3_140605

1.The firmware can’t be downgraded.
2.You have to restore the device to factory default to make the new functions take effect; Click Maintenance->SysRestart, choose Factory Default Settings, Click RESTART button.
3.This firmware can’t be upgraded in IE11 web browser in Windows 8.1 OS. Also, it can’t be upgraded successfully in Firefox 25.0, Chrome31.0, IE10 with a certain possibility.
Therefore, if you’re using these web browsers, please use other web browsers or upgrade Firefox or Chrome to the latest version, such as Firefox 30, Chrome 35.

My idea is first upgrade to TD-W8961NB_V3_140605 via chrome(latest version), Then we upgrade to the newest TD-W8961NB_V3_141027

Hi

I am having the same issue tried everything with no success.
My router firmware is 140604 and tried to update to 140605 the exact same thing is happening.
I contacted the customer support and the reply I received was that 140604 and 104605 are the same

I have now tried to update to TD-W8961NB_V3_141027 and am receiving the same error message

ERROR: FAIL TO UPDATE! The uploaded file was not accepted by the router.

I have tried installing the update using Win7 and Chrome V.39 and IE Ver.11
I could try win 8.1 but I think it will be the same

Has anybody been successful in upgrading there router if so how!

Update: there is no version 140604 on the website. Winai, you'd better check your model first, is it really a TD-W8961 NB?

I figure out what is going on now according to all your posts in the forum.

Case 1: if you are using TD-W8961NB_V3(DE)121130, perform step by step
TD-W8961NB_V3(DE)121130 -----------> TD-W8961NB_V3_140605 (same with 140604) ---------> TD-W8961NB_V3_141027

You need to turn off model check before upgrade to TD-W8961NB_V3_140605.

Case 2: if you are using 130128, perform step by step
TD-W8961NB_V3_130128 --> TD-W8961NB_V3_140605 (same with 140604) --> TD-W8961NB_V3_141027

You need to turn off model check before upgrade to TD-W8961NB_V3_140605.

Case 3: If you are using TD-W8961NB_V3_140605 (same with 140604), you can upgrade to TD-W8961NB_V3_141027 directly.

You are recommended to use the [B]latest Firefox [/B]to perform the firmware upgrade. Try different computers if available.

I remember trying the TD-W8961NB_V3_140605 as well without success, but at that time I was not aware of the modelcheck setting. Will give it a try again and will let you guys know if that worked. Thanks for all the responses!
