Model : TL-PA551

Hardware Version : Not Clear

Firmware Version :

ISP : Talktalk

We have three x two port AV500 powerline adapters, models TL-PA451 and TL-PA4020 (wrong model shown above as dropdown didn't have ours listed). One is used for the router and the others for a desktop and a laptop - all run on Windows 7. On the laptop only, at boot up we get a message that says "Client Mac Address" and a string of numbers, it is then apparently searching before stating no boot filename received". It then continues to boot up. This is not a major problem but it does slow boot up. It never happened before using the adapters and only happens on the laptop (TL-PA451). Is there anything we can do please?

Is it the powerline utility?
If PA451 is disconnected, the problem disappears right away? Tried it on a different computer?
Attach a screenshot of the message you mentioned.

Thanks for response. If I boot this laptop without the powerline adapter then the problem disappears. This laptop does have the powerline utility file loaded. If I use the same adapter with another laptop then the problem does not present itself at all, that laptop does not have the utility file loaded. I cannot do a screen dump as it manifests on boot-up but the following appears:

Client Mac Addr: P0 4D A2 AE 3E 6A GUID [whole string of numbers] DHCP ... then a timer, then eventually it says: No Boot Filename Received.

I am not techie - hope this answers the points that you raised.

Thanks

Believe me, it is definitely a BIOS settings issue on the laptop..

Many computers allows to boot from network. When it boots it tries to find a network resource to boot up. In your case there is no such a bootable resource so the laptop continues to boot normally from harddisk after a few seconds trying.

There is nothing to do with the powerline... You could connect that laptop to your router directly via a Ethernet cable, you might see the same booting behavior. And if so, you need to find somebody to adjust the laptop's bios settings, or just ignore this delay. After all, this boot-up message won't do any harm..it is only a normal message.
