To anyone having the same issue of no USB device HDD/printer/ or anything else  return the item get a refund and purchase a different make I believe tp-link is going under.

The USB port on the TD-W9970 is reserved for a 3/4G modem:

• As a backup solution for internet access

• As the only way to access the internet

@TP-Link I think you need to rethink having the USB restricted just for the 3g/4g dongle if it was costing 70-80 pounds and it was being purchased for a small to medium business that would be perfectly valid and acceptable but the price of the TD W9970 is more for the home market and so the device I would of thought be better being an all rounder for me I'll be returning mine and going for another make you've lost a loyal customer.
