Hi Everyone

I'm looking for some advice on hardware selection for my home network.

I currently have a TP Link W9980 which is starting to have issues with WiFi dropping out and doing complete resets when it's had enough.

I've been looking only to either update this system to use Deco's as the new WiFi and use the current W9980 as a modem (option 1); or by a full new system with a new DSL modem (option 2).  I only have 70mbps internet so not able to max out the VSDL capabilities.

I think the new Deco X68 units would be great as they offer good speeds and a wireless backhaul - just don't know when they will be released in the UK.
I like the idea of using a combined Deco and modem like the X20-DSL however I'm guessing this would limit the speed of the whole network of I were to use X68's?
And would a wireless backhaul still be work between the X68's if the main unit was an X20?

 Otherwise I guess I'm looking at either using my ISP modem and X68's, or buying a new TP Link modem like the W9970 if that would be good enough.

The main features I use on the W9980 are the IP reservation and DMZ.

Configuration would be Modem wired to base Deco, then wireless Deco to mesh.

Thanks in advance

Oli

@griff02

Hi, before you consider other models, have you checked whether the internet disconnected is caused by the aging of W9980 or the DSL service?

And considering the internet bandwidth is 70m/s, Deco X68 might not be superior to Deco X20 if you have no plan to upgrade the bandwidth in a short time.

Since all the Deco models could use together to create Mesh, the following combination would be more suitable:

1.If this is the first time you use the Deco Mesh system, TD-W9980(DSL modem mode only)+Deco M9 plus kit(wireless router) would be better;

2. Deco X20-DSL kit as the wireless modem router.

3. If you are quite interested in Wi-Fi 6, TD-W9980(DSL modem mode only)+Deco X68 kit(wireless router) would also be a good choice;

@TP-Link

Thanks for your reply.

As the W9980 is not accessible and all lights go out I believe it is the aging router not the DSL line, as it has happened at two houses now. I'm unsure whether I will upgrade the bandwidth when I move house so would like the option to if needed.

I am keen to upgrade to WiFi 6 so I'm future proofed for a while in terms of WiFi, so this limits me to the X series of the Deco range.

The reason for thinking the X68 over the X20 was for file transfer speeds between my NAS and laptop, and the growing number of wireless clients within my home network in the future.

Is the X68 due for realise in the UK soon?

Since it is marked as coming soon, I could only say it would release in the UK but as for the date, I have no idea either and It is suggested to keep attention to Amazon.co.uk or the local websites.
