I have been using the TP Link device as a repeater in a granny flat approx 12mtrs from our home to get wifi in the flat.  Its unreliable and everyone complains its never working properly.

We have cable internet to this room, can i plug the TP Link device directly into a wall port to create more stable wifi in this room.  Would i have to change it to an access point rather than repeater?

 

In the main house we have a Netgear D6220 modem Router running of NBN, we are in Australia.

Yes, you can do that, just set the device in AP mode and connect to the wall port.

Ethernet backhaul is more stable and wireless connection would be more reliable at your granny's flat.

The same rules are valid when device is in AP mode:

- LAN IP address of the AP should be in the same network subnet as the main router.

For example if the main router IP address is 192.168.1.1/DHCP server 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.99, then make the AP LAN IP address 192.168.1.254

- AP DHCP server set to Disabled.

@terziyski Thanks for your response.  I'm new to this so do I change the IP address or subnet mask when going through the quick set up process. I'm using a TP Link WA901ND.

 

Will the flat and house be on the same network name? 

 

Can I change the network SSID name to be same as main house with same password for seamless connection when moving between house and flat.

You can do that during the quick setup - here's your device user guide - Chapter 3.2. => Chapter 3.2.1 (for AP mode)

Or you can just connect by cable to the device, login then change these settings, just follow the example settings from my first post.

You can choose whether the house and flat are with the same network SSID or not during the quick setup, but you can change that anytime you want.
