[Solution] VPN Client is not working

This Article Applies to:
Archer AX20
Archer AX21
Archer AX90
Issue Description/Phenomenon:
The router models mentions in this article have already supported the VPN Client function with the latest official firmware, so users can connect to a VPN server by configuring the router as a VPN client. However, some customers find that they are unable to connect to their VPN server when trying to configure the VPN client on the router. This article aims to provide a solution for it.
Troubleshooting Suggestions & Solution:
Step 1
Ensure you can connect to the VPN server using the VPN client on the local PC/Smartphone.
Step 2
If step 1 is checked and confirmed accessible, please check the size of the VPN Configuration profile you are trying to upload to the router, only the VPN profile that is smaller than 8kb can be uploaded to the router. You may download and install the Notepad+ application to delete the useless comment in the profile.
Step 3
If both step 1 and step 2 are confirmed good, and you can upload the VPN file successfully but still failed to connect to the VPN server, install the beta firmware on your Archer AX20, then check again if the connection can be established. Please be sure you have read The Beta Test Agreement before proceeding!
Note: Please verify the hardware version of your device first, and choose the correct file to download and install.
If the VPN connection still fails, please email support@tp-link.com with the subject [Forum ID 270268] VPN Client is not working, or leave a comment below. In either case, be sure to provide the following information:
1. What kind of VPN type you are using, OpenVPN or PPTP VPN?
2. What kind of VPN Client software you were using on the local PC or phone?
3. Which step did you stuck in, any error message or screenshot?

Found the link to the firmware for the AX21 in one of the messages.
Downloaded and updated my AX21 and was able to use the OpenVPN client as described.
Works great ...
It's a great solution if you have SOME devices that need the VPN (Smart TV, Chromecast, etc. etc. ...) and some that don't.
Thanks for the followup!

@ LJK57 Cheers
good day
Good to know that at least one user successfully connected using the VPN Client protocol, but did you ask what protocol? what is your VPN service provider?

@Kevin_Z I am using Archer AX90 and unable to connect to OpenVPN (ExpressVPN) using the VPN Client config page following instructions on this page: https://www.tp-link.com/my/support/faq/3135/. I have tried different server locations and tried contacting ExpressVPN support as well. Please advise what I should try next?

Can we confirm again what's the hardware version and firmware version of the Archer AX90? Is it an EU version or a US version? You can find this on the router bottom sticker, thanks.
We have reported this issue to the engineering team, they will provide a beta firmware for you to fix this soon, please kindly wait.
