Archer AX90

Issue Description/Phenomenon:

The router models mentions in this article have already supported the VPN Client function with the latest official firmware, so users can connect to a VPN server by configuring the router as a VPN client. However, some customers find that they are unable to connect to their VPN server when trying to configure the VPN client on the router. This article aims to provide a solution for it.

Troubleshooting Suggestions & Solution:

Step 1

Ensure you can connect to the VPN server using the VPN client on the local PC/Smartphone.

Step 2

If step 1 is checked and confirmed accessible, please check the size of the VPN Configuration profile you are trying to upload to the router, only the VPN profile that is smaller than 8kb can be uploaded to the router. You may download and install the Notepad+ application to delete the useless comment in the profile.

Step 3

If both step 1 and step 2 are confirmed good, and you can upload the VPN file successfully but still failed to connect to the VPN server, install the beta firmware on your Archer AX20, then check again if the connection can be established. Please be sure you have read The Beta Test Agreement before proceeding!

Note: Please verify the hardware version of your device first, and choose the correct file to download and install.

If the VPN connection still fails, please email support@tp-link.com with the subject [Forum ID 270268] VPN Client is not working, or leave a comment below. In either case, be sure to provide the following information:

1. What kind of VPN type you are using, OpenVPN or PPTP VPN?

2. What kind of VPN Client software you were using on the local PC or phone?

3. Which step did you stuck in, any error message or screenshot?

You can try the beta firmware we provided on the OP if the issue is the same.

Provide the information we need if the beta firmware still doesn't solve it.

Hi,

You need to extract the zip file and upgrade the router

@rssothy

Thanks for the reply ... I was actually asking if there was a file for the AX21 (not the AX20).  Also, if that file is in a format that can be unzipped on a Mac...

The link above appears to be specifically for the AX20 ...

Hi, have you confirmed Step 1 and 2 already, and still cannot connect to the VPN server? If that is the case, please confirm the below:

1. What kind of VPN type you are using, OpenVPN or PPTP VPN?

2. What kind of  VPN Client software you were using on the local PC or phone?

3. Which step did you stuck in, any error message or screenshot?
