i am trying to change over a wifi after getting a new router for my extender and not sure how to do it. Please help.

If you want to use multiple REs, it is recommended to connect to no more than （<=） 2 range extenders to the router & both range extenders connects to main router:
Topology 1: RE )))(( Router )))(( RE2
If you want to wirelessly connect RE to another RE:
Topology2: Router )) ((RE1 )) ((( RE2
Topology2 is theoretically possible, but not very recommended, in double wireless bridges, the second RE's performance can not promised.
You could consider topology 3: router ))(( RE1 --<Ethernet cable>-- RE2 (AP mode), and kindly note that RE2 should support AP mode.
RE450 V2 and higer hardware version support AP mode.
