Model: TL-WR840N
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version:

I use a WR840N wi-fi router. I'm trying to forward a port:25565 on my server. I forwarded the port on the server admin panel but when I check it on any port checking website it says port closed. I tried everything I could and tried to get some help from online blog and youtube videos. I tried it on different routers of the same model but I could open the port. I could find the problem. I don't know what is the problem. Is it my isp? Do I need check if they allow port forwarding or not? If someone could please help me.

Here's a detailed guide on how to configure port-forwarding for your router.

If you have another device (ISP modem/router) before your 840N that may be the reason you can't open the port.

Look at your 840N WAN (internet) port IP address. If it's private then that's the case:

  • IP addresses: 10.0. 0.0 – 10.255. 255.255.
  • IP addresses: 172.16. 0.0 – 172.31. 255.255.
  • IP addresses: 192.168. 0.0 – 192.168. 255.255..

The other reason could be an integrated firewall on your server.

@terziyski My wan ip is like 103.13.***.***, Is this a private wan ip or public ? If I enable dmz on my server device, can I run my server on any port?

@AresXgaming

It's a public IP address.

Yes, if you set a DMZ in 840N then you can run your server on any port (I would recommend using above 1024).

Check this FAQ for potential reasons for this issue (case 2).

@terziyski well I checked my wan ip on the router it starts with 10.***, but if I check on the internet it's different. I guess that's the case. My wan IP is a private one, right? Do I need to contact my isp?

Yes, if 840N WAN IP address is 10.*.*.* then that's a private address.

Do you have an ISP device (modem/router) connected before your 840N ?

If so, then according to whether you have access to it or not you can set a DMZ to 840N, set it in bridge mode or call the ISP to do one of those for you.
