I have installed an Extender RE200 at my neighbours house and have now seen that the Extender creates a new wifi, called "xxx_EXT". Could that be avoided/changed in the settings somewhere to only extending existing network?

Another extender we have in our house is only extending the existing wifi, same name, no new wifi-network to activate which seems much easier.

Yes the RE's SSID could be changed:

You could use 'Tether app' to change Wireless settings for range extender at first:
https://www.tp-link.com/tether_compatibility_list/
https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1373/

Or you could change Wireless settings through Web page:
https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1402/"
