Slow WIFI speeds in C6 MU-MIMO router
Hello,
This is disappointing, I have recently purchased a newAC1200 MU-MIMO router from TP-link to use my Wifi connection (get 180/190 Mbps over LAN) wifi speeds are pathetic, 87 Mbps for a laptop connected within a range of 1 feet, get 35/45 Mbps in a mobile in a range of 4 feet.
This new router is much worse that my existing router ~ I have specifically upgraded my broadband connection to use better speeds, but this is totally unreasonable!
can somebody help me out in this? Or should I replace this product?!
Kindly mention if any info required.

Additionally - is there a different configuration required? speed wavers 150/170 Mbps in laptop "rarely". but if i connect second device (mobile) speed doesn't exceed 25~50 Mbps in it ~ this is the same for any other device if i try to connect(even if they are within a range of 1~2 feet), Does wifi speed work in the most minimal range in this model? 1 device/ 3~5 feet distance 🙄
I've configured Network under PPPOE
I'm using ACT broadband "200 Mbps"

Please refer to the troubleshooting guide below to confirm the settings on your C6U, perform one modification at a time, then confirm if the wireless speed is improved:

I've confirmed good speeds when connected to physical LAN(180~190 Mbps) as per info from "https://www.tp-link.com/in/support/faq/2292/" I have modified 2.4Ghz - Channel Width (20MHz), Channel(1)
Now am getting 150~180 Mbps in wifi(laptop)
speeds of 17~25 Mbps in mobile - can connectivity to mobile device not be improved?!
connectivity range is within 2~3 feel of router, for testing purposes - Is this modem supposed to give good speeds in laptop/ give low speeds in mobile connected to the same?!
- kindly confirm
[UPDATE]
after checking with broadband vendor, came to the conclusion that good speeds are available only in 5G Ghz mode ~ I'm getting acceptable speeds in laptop(5G)(130Mbps after 2 walls) my mobile supports only 2.4Ghz connection(speed ~35Mbps) | my wife's mobile supports 5GHz (speed ~60MBps)
please inform if this can be improved
oddly I was getting higher speeds 150~180 Mbps in laptop from 2.4Ghz mode

patrick

What's the model and OS version of the mobile? Please confirm what is the link speed when connected to the C6 network, check it is connected to the 2.4G or 5G. Generally, the actual speed will be 60-70% of the link speed.
You may connect this mobile to another wireless network, check again if it can get a better speed.

@r1ck Ideally, I'm getting acceptable speeds (though it is less) but this is better than what I had before [perhaps it is due to upgrading my broadband connection as well]
since I find this acceptable..
my laptop supports 5G ~ its connecting in good speeds
my mobile only supports 2.4 G (Samsung A20s) I am okay with the speeds I get
only need to know, If this is common across all routers == I get blazing fast speeds 'if I am very close to router' beyond a wall // quite far from router I get comparatively slow speeds
This is perhaps the only complaint, apart from this ~ this model/ router is a good one to use

patrick

When you are moving away from the signal source, the speed may drop according to the distance and link speed the phone can negotiate. Generally, the signal and speed is determined by both sides, the signal source, that is the router, and the receiving side, that is the phone in your case. If the router can send a good signal to the location, while your phone chip is too weak to pick it up, then the speed may not good also.
If your house is some kind of big, you can check if there are dead zones, then purchase a range extender to get a better coverage.
