I have two M9 and one M5. My M5 is wired.
You won't get separate 5GHz backhaul from M5 to M9, obviously. I knew that, so I only bought M5 because I planned to wire it.
If M9 firmware is upgraded but M5 is not, or opposite, you won't see new features. My M5 is on 1.5 firmware and people sharing new configuration settings they see, I don't have them because latest M9 firmware is still 1.4 as of today.
If you are happy with all features you already have on your Deco mesh, that's not a problem for you. M5 has newer firmware or will after it is upgraded when you set it.
In summary: if you plan to wire M5, no issues whatsoever. If you plan to run it wireless, you might get worse speed than M9, depending on M5 location and speed of your Internet connection. Meaning, if for example your ISP connection is under 150Mbit, probably doesn't matter. If it is 500Mbit, might matter.
Anyway, unpack your new M5 and try it. That won't break your existent Deco M9 mesh.
