Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hi.  I am considering an M5 system but need a "real life" comment.  I have a 500mb fibre connection.  What speed could I expect through wifi?  My current router, a Netgear X10 loses 200mb!

Thanks

@pdeseymour

Hello,

As per the Deco M5 specifications, it will provide you a 400 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 867 Mbps on 5 GHz, which means you will get a maximum of 867M wireless link speed if your wireless adapter also supports it.

However, the wireless link speed/rate is not equal to the real wireless speed you will get, the actual wireless speed is almost 60%-80% of the wireless link speed. For more details, you may refer to the below article:

Hopefully, that answers your question but let us know if you need more details.

@pdeseymour

I would suggest you to go for M9 plus model since you have a 500 Mbps connection.

The M9 plus model is AC2200 that has a separate dedicated radio (bandwidth) for handling the backhaul. The M9 will give you faster speeds than M5. In my personal opinion, M5 is OK for speeds upto 200 Mbps. Anything above it, M9 would serve you better.

Thanks for this. It looks like the link you sent is broken. I completely rebuilt the network today from a full factory reset on all 5 devices. When I restored the main, without any other devices or Decos connected, I stood near the Main and with WiFi got the full 500mb download. There was no loss!! However, as I reconnected the other Decos and they started to connect the devices, the speed at the main dropped markedly. I wish I understood more of the technicalities! Cheers
