In the deco app when I add a new device I can choose between deco m5 and m5 plus. 

Tplink usually creates confusion with v1 v2.... Which are not compatible within each other and have different firmware s. 

But what is the difference between the deco m5 and m5 plus?

Did you see it wrong? Is it Deco M9 plus?

We now only have Deco M5, Deco P7, Deco M9plus and Deco M4.

Deco M5 Plus is a new coming product. It's not released yet. Just choose the model in your hand (Deco M5).
