Model: EAP245
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 5.0.1

Hey there, I'm having issues with my EAP245. I've been troubleshooting some wireless issues over that last few weeks stemming from a pair of Wyze Wifi cams congesting my 2.4. I've put them on a TP-link N600 on CH1 (245 is on 11) that solved the majority of the issues, but now I've got issues with the 245 losing internet on phones (only real devices that are band steering). I guess the ideal solution is to get another unit and mesh them, however, it's a little hard to do so, when I'm having issues with one.

Speeds are great for 2.4, I'm getting 80 down in most areas of my house, decent enough for wifi. What will happen is on my Band steering SSID, after an hour or two, the phones lose internet. I can still connect to all upstream lan management pages ( EAP245, HP 1820 POE switch, and PFSense box) without issues, but no internet connectivity. I've made a 2.4 only network, and switching to that while the issue is occurring doesn't fix it, I have to disconnect wifi and reconnect to solve it. Being on 5g or 2.4g only, the issue doesn't appear.

I'm hoping to keep a single ap if possible, as I'm in a rental house with solid cedar log construction.... There ain't no fishing wires through these walls, 4" of solid wood interior and exterior... Oddly, these issues have seemed to come around after I added the N600, and seem to go away without it. It's flashed to DDWRT and running as a wireless AP only.

@ShinyChicken7

On the surface this doesnt seem to be an AP issue, especially as you have LAN access.  That indicates more a routing or gateway issue.   Can you hit the gateway when its in this mode?  Does the IP address, Subnet and GW all look correct?

You also appear to have answered your own question?!

Oddly, these issues have seemed to come around after I added the N600, and seem to go away without it.

If that device is causing the issue then there you go, its not band steering.   Much as I have used ddwrt before, its got its limitations and can cause random strange things to happen.  Flashing an unsupported firmware onto a router to turn it into an AP, that always seems counterintuitive to me when compared to buying a new actual AP for €35

My gut feeling on this one, the ddwrt device is acting as a partial router and taking control of the gateway, therefore its not routing traffic correctly when this happens.  Its only manifesting during the beamforming as the EAP225 is re-establishing a connection for the device, and therefore that act alone triggers the gateway error.

@Philbert Sometimes it's the simplest of things lol.... The main reason I grabbed this guy was to test if it's the cameras causing 2.4 issues on my network, and it definitely was, but you're right it's a stop gap for sure... Pretty sure your hand holding was exactly what I needed though, it was soo simple. Right on the front DDWRT page staring me in the face: DHCP SERVER LEASES, and a bunch of MAC addresses from outside that AP.... Changed it to DHCP disabled, and we'll see, hopefully that's it.

I kinda knew I'd answered my own question, but I was really hoping to not get rid of the N600 due to how much better everything else was working. Cameras were dropping out 10 times a day (using as baby monitors), and when they were dropping, everything on 2.4 was crawling to a halt.

Thanks for the help Philbert :)

Edit: DHCP Disabled, not forward

I would say that is it mate, likely when its bandsteering its asking for a renewal of the DHCP and getting one from the ddwrt, which it itself will be valid.. just wont go to the gateway!

As you say, long as it works  cheeky
