Hi guys,

 

hope you can help me out. Currently i have one eap245 on my home.

 

but i would like to create a seamless roaming with three ap's on every level of the house. 
 

I would like to be futureproof a bit. I see a lot of benefits of wifi 6. 
 

I was looking at the eap620 because it has almost no price difference with my current eap245.

(130 euro p.p.) (eap245 90 euro pp, or eap660 200 euro p.p.)

 
My wish ap capabilities:

 

- work with multiple clients and devices at home (smart devices) 

- can handle simultaneously clients while streaming (example: 1 gaming, 2 clients gaming, 1 facetime call) without interruption or laggy. 
- no deadspots in house.

- almost all devices in my home are still wifi 5 devices. 

 

 

is eap620 2x2 mimo enough for home use? Or is eap245 or eap660 that better. Or wait for the eap680 triband to come out. 
 

so what so you guys think? Eap245 works fine now. But i want to expand for every level one ap. Is it better to upgrade to eap620. Or pay the extra money to buy eap660 or even wait for eap680? Or just get the eap245?

Hey

 

I had the same debate myself quite recently and decided to just go with the EAP245, my thinking below

 

Pros..

The 245s are cheaper

245 supports MU-MIMO so two of them handle my 50 odd clients with ease! 

None of my current devices support  WiFi6

 

 

Against...

I have no actual need for WiFi6

More cost

The airspace on 2.4ghz is flooded near me so AX wont offer much more performance on that frequency

The speeds offered by WiFi6 arent much faster vs WiFi5 on standard 2x2 devices (most common cards) 1200mbps vs 866mbps, 3x3 and 4x4 cards are rare..

I dont have a 2.5gb switch to run the 660 LAN port at full speed and that would annoy the hell outta me   lol 

 

 

The decider..

WiFi 6E is starting to emerge and I want that untapped 6Ghz frequency with the much faster speeds!   I would rather stick with WiFi5 now and save some €€ to upgrade to WiFi6E when its here (looking like 2022)

Thank your for your reply! That’s my dilemma also. The price difference is almost none with the eap620hd. (Maybe 40 euro more expensive per ap) downside of upgrading to the eap620 or eap660 i need to get a poe+ switch to work with it. My questions is, one eap245 can handle 100 clients max right. So when i get 3 eap245 you can handle max 300? Or it stays 100 total? (I can blackhaul wire the system.) Secondly, do you have any problem with speed loss with your eap245? When having multiple clients like 4-6 clients at the same time; online gaming, netflix, streaming (speed loss, interruption, freeze?)
