Model: Deco E4
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.0

Hi, following set-up:

4 Deco E4R units with latest software release.

Main Deco E4 -> Access Point Mode, connected to router, connected to ISP

3 secondary Decos connected to main Deco.

Had some trouble setting up the 4 units because everytime when I turned the main Deco from the default Router Mode into Access Point I wasn't able to connect the secondary units. After finishing the set-up for the secondary units when they tried to connect (flashing blue turns into blinking red) they were not able to re-connect to the main unit again (turns to steady red). I realized that the main Deco has to stay in router mode until the last unit is connected then I was able to switch from router to AP. After a couple of minutes with the Internet connection going up and down it became stable.

In the second step I wanted to connect Ethernet Backhaul to one unit with the result that the Internet Connection of the Mesh network went up and down forever while a Wlan client (Smartphone) tried to cennet to the WLAN endlessly. DIsconnecting the Ether Backhaul immediatley re-connected the Wlan.

The Ethernet Backhaul is using a connection through some cascaded hubs but all devices connect in the same way (i.e. TV set) works perfectly fine.

A Deco unit that is connected in two ways (MESH and Lan cable) has to use differnet IP adress for the different interfaces. As such I think that the unit has a problem with resolving the right adress and gets in trouble with the DHCP server running in the router. But as I don't have any way to troubleshoot the problem (no support through the app) I don't know how to tackle the problem.

Has anyone any experience with symptoms like this? I tried to set fixed IP adresses for the units - no fix. I did reset the whole set several times - no fix.)BTW: I get the feeling that with every reset it takes longer to set-up the units!)

Any idea? Is there a way to "downgrade" the units to an earlier firmware version just to try an installation from the very beginning? Does the reset button really resets everything into factory default? Or is there another way to reset to "0"???

Any suggestion or help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Lutz

@Sailor

Hi Lutz, what is the current led status of the 4 Deco units? Can you access internet from them?

For your information, flashing red means that the slave Deco had disconnected from main Deco, while solid red means that the Deco has an issue. You can see this. As you mentioned, after you finished the second Deco and try to connect, it became flashing red and the main Deco became solid red; please ensure that you can access internet from  the ISP router normally at the same time.

The ethernet backhaul has higher priority than wifi backhaul, each Deco will has their own IP address, they are assigned by the main router and different, but in the same subnet. You can hard reset it by holding the reset button/hole for 1s with it powered on, or you can remove them from the Deco to reset.

What is the current hardware and firmware version of the 4 Decos? Try to swap the location of Decos and switch the slave Deco to the main one and give it a go.

May it help.
